[solved] postfix: send mail from alias address

itrichter

Question

Posted

I'm using postfix/courier setup on debian wheezy. I have set up several aliases to a mail address as redirections (e.g. contact@... -> info@... where info@ has a mailbox).

If I try to send a mail with the alias as "from" address, I get an Error:

Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
Sender address is not allowed.

Is this by design or a configuration problem? If it's by design, is there a way to allow this?

Never mind, I found that the current version has this feature by default. It works for redirections as well as catchall adresses.

My problem was a quirk in Thunderbird: You need to set the right SMTP-Server for additional identities, since it will not always use the "default" server and login from the parent account.

By design. You can edit the postfix config to change that behaviour. (somewhere in the smtp sender restrictions or similar...dont know by heart)
